Yardwork: Red Sox Back into Wild Card Spot, Then Celebrate Sans Video Cameras & Photographers

Toronto 8, Boston 7: Adam Lind jacked three homers and Aaron Hill added another, as the Blue Jays ruined Boston’s chance to celebrate a Wild Card berth … early in the night. The Red Sox hung around the clubhouse until the Angels defeated the Rangers, and that secured their spot in the postseason. So they celebrated for 30 minutes … but no media was allowed to revel in the madness (the ink-stained wretches were given pizza at 1 am, though!). So there won’t be any champagne-fueledSource: The Big Lead RSS Feed

Carumba, Omar Vizquel Wants To Be A Bullfighter

When last we left Omar Vizquel during the off season, he was wrestling anacondas. This year following the Texas Rangers’ World Series appearance (laugh track), Vizquel wants to climb into the ring with a larger opponent.

In a conflict as old as mammals themselves, it will be American League infielder vs. bull in a struggle for survival. Vizquel wants to learn to be a matador when he returns to his native Venezuela later this month. Your move, PETA. (more…)

Arreola a Punching Bag As Rose Deployed Airbags

Only notables from the Vladimir Klitschko-Chris Arreola fight here in L.A. last night:

A (very) sad sack Arreola cried in the ring after a bloody beatdown from Klitschko.

(Pondering if she double-swiped his card on purpose)

While a ringside Pete Rose was to be commended for his decision to double-bag, which brought out the best of the Twitterazzi. (more…)

Mets interested in Milton Bradley ?

Most of us expected the Mets to be connected to Milton Bradley, hopefully that becomes nothing more then speculation as the two sides seem to be a good fit.
The only teams that are going to look at Bradley is a team desperate to find power and looking to dump a bad contract, both of which are the case for the Mets.
The Mets desperately need to find a homerun hitter and they may look to dump the contracts of Oliver Perez and/or Luis Castillo. Either one of those contracts areSource: Mets Fever RSS Feed

BREAKING: NCAA Prez Myles Brand Passes Away

Sad news comes from the world of college sports today: according to the NCAA, Myles Brand has finally succumbed after a year-long battle with pancreatic cancer. Pancreatic cancer, you might recall, is the same disease that killed Pistons and Olympic head coach Chuck Daly earlier this year, as well as Patrick Swayze just earlier this week. It is a brutal, vicious, lethal disease against which most people never stand a chance of survival.

How HDTV Attracts Higher TV Ratings For Soccer Games

Given the choice between watching a match in high-definition television or watching a game in standard definition, which one would you choose? What if the choice was, like last weekend, Liverpool against Burnley in HD on ESPN2 or Manchester City versus Arsenal in standard definition on Setanta Sports?

For me, I’m more likely to watch the HDTV broadcast first and then watch the standard def game on DVR later. And that’s exactly what I did this past weekendSource: EPL Talk RSS Feed

Another day more injuries...

In the first inning of yesterdays day game, it was observed the Ken Takahashi was warming up in the bullpen. Whether is was a side session or he was attempting to gauge an injury is unknown but Taki never came into the game and it was later revealed that he was unavailable ( source Daily News). Although, he's been surprisingly effective the 40 y/o can't be our second lefty, the Mets need to be younger and less injury prone...
In the second game, Fernando Tatis left the game with aSource: Mets Fever RSS Feed

Do you make Ian Bell's batting mistakes?

PitchVision Academy Batting Coach, Gary Palmer, continues his series analysing English batsmen's technique. This time Ian Bell comes under the spotlight. If you want coaching from Gary, visit CCM Academy.

Many people say Ian Bell has a good basic technique but I think that poor alignment causes the Englishman problems.

When you see him from the side view it looks very good. He fully completes his straight batted shots with high hands and leading elbow whilstSource: PitchVision Academy RSS Feed

5:15 is Really Early

Yesterday around 4 pm I was lucky enough to be given two great seats to the Giants/Dodgers game so my afternoon plans quickly changed. I went with a friend to The Bus Stop Bar in San Francisco for some pregame beverages. The bar has been around since 1900 and has 4 flatscreens within view and luckily one of them was tuned to NESN. The bartender was from Worcester, Mass. and the guy sitting next to me was wearing a Japanese Dice-K shirt. The rain started falling at the Fens so we, like most

Emmanuel Adebayor Lectures Arsenal Fans on Loyalty

Before playing Arsenal, former Arsenal striker Emmanuel Adebayor said Arsenal supporters are “not real fans.”

“What is good at City is the fans. They love you. Arsenal have a lot of fans who are not fans,” Adebayor said. “Arsenal have fans from America and Jamaica. Today they are Arsenal fans, tomorrow they will be Liverpool fans, after tomorrow they will be Manchester United fans.

“If you boo your player every weekend, I am very sorry,
